Gingerbread Houses

Today we made gingerbread houses. Each child was given a house that was already constructed using graham crackers. The children used icing and LOTS of candy to decorate and make their own creation. They had lots of fun and had icing and candy everywhere.

Thanksgiving Fun

Today the children wore the Native American costumes they created and we rotated through each Kindergarten room to take part in a fun activity. The children had a great time. We ended the day by having a Pilgrims meet the Native Americans Feast. All the Kindergarten classes went to the cafeteria and sat at the long lunch tables that were decorated and ready for a feast. A HUGE thank you to all the parents that cooked, prepared and served all the delicious food.

Barney Bus

Today we had Barney Bus come and talk to the Kindergarten students about bus safety. Our local bus drivers are the presenters and do an excellent job. The children and teachers LOVE to see and hear the skit from the puppets about what is safe and unsafe to do on the bus.

Easter Egg Hunt

On Friday afternoon we had an Easter Egg Hunt. Each student was asked to bring in a dozen filled eggs. Each student was provided with a basket and were allowed to find 20 eggs. The students had a lot of fun!

Egg Drop - did they survive?

On Friday morning we had an egg drop. Each kindergaten student was given a note that explained the project. Each child was to put a raw egg in a baggie and then come up with a creative way to package it so it would survive being dropped off the roof of the school. We had some really creative projects come in. Most of our eggs survived - we did have a couple that did not survive. Thank you to Mrs. Camp, our Assistant Principal for climbing on the roof of the school and dropping all of Kindergartens eggs.

Career Day

This past week my student teacher, Mrs. Robin taught a unit on Jobs & Careers. On Friday the children were invited to dress up to show what job they would like to have when they grow up. The boys and girls were so excited when they arrived at school. They could hardly wait to share with the class their future jobs.

We had a special visitor come to see our class

On Tuesday of this week we had a deputy sheriff come to visit with our class. He came in and talked to the boys and girls about his job. He gave them time to ask questions about his job, took them outside to see his car and let every child have a turn sitting in the car as he explained all the different things in the car and what they do. The boys and girls were so excited!!! Needless to say most them said after he left that they wanted to be policemen when they grow up. He also brought all the boys and girls a coloring book, crayons and a balloon.

Class Spelling Bee

Today we had our Class Spelling Bee. I am so proud of how well everyone did. Each child was given a paper about 3 weeks before the spelling bee that had over 200 words on it to study. I was a little overwhelmed with this since the school I came from had never allowed Kindegrarten to be a part of the Spelling Bee - this was all new to me. Well, of course my boys and girls practiced and studied and did an amazing job. We had to keep the spelling bee going until we had 3 winners. Our winners were:
Riley
Cynlenthia
Jacob
I am so proud of you!!!

Valentine's Day Party

Today we celebrated Valentine's Day with a Party. Whenever we have a party/celebration in our classroom I set it up in stations. I have parents volunteer to come in and help run the stations and the children rotate through each station. This helps to keep things orderly and organized and everyone gets to take part in each activity. The stations for the Valentine's Party were:
1. Refreshments
2. Make a Valentine's Day Necklace or Bracelet (some had time to make both)
3. Make a Valentine's Day card for someone they love.
4. Play Valentine Bingo with our Popcorn Words
The children had a great time!

February Kennedy Kubs - Clayton and Riley

We have begun to select Kennedy Kubs for each month. Each teacher is allowed to select 2 students that exhibit qualities of a great student and citizen. Since my class is pretty even with boys and girls I will select one boy and one girl each month. This month I selected Clayton and Riley as the Kennedy Kubs.

100th Day of School

Today is the 100th day of school. We celebrated at school by participating in many activities that involved the number 100. The students were asked to create a home project that was about the number 100. They were given a list of activities they could choose from or they could create their own. I was very pleased to see the creativity that came in.
